Most of the causes contributed to these injuries like;- Use of inappropriate eye protection.
- Neglecting Safety Rules and procedures, Improper guards and inspection.
- Exposure to chemical products, Flying particles or slices.
- Falling or misdirected objects that ejected by tools or blown by wind.
Workers in construction & offsite locations have the highest rates of eye injuries.
Eye injuries can be prevented by:
IDENTIFY THE HAZARDS IN YOUR WORKPLACE.
- Risk assessment to be conducted and hazards to be addressed.
- Communicate the workplace hazards to all workers.
- Use caution flags or signs to identify potential hazards.
- The proper type of eye protection must be selected to match the type of hazard.
- Always comply with the PPE identified in the Permit To Work and Where flying objects impose a risk .
- Eye protection devices must be properly maintained.
- Clean your protective eye-wear and store them properly.

- Not appropriate for use where, chemical splashes, vapors and powders is a hazard.
- Dark safety glasses suitable for work in outdoors sunlight.
- Clear safety glasses suitable for work in inadequate lighting workplaces.

- Facial Shields
- Face shields are used for protecting the wearer’s face and eyes from dangers such as critical chemicals and projectile debries.
- Use face shields in combination with safety glasses or goggles, for additional protection offered by glasses or goggles alone.
